Did you know that the eastern Algarve, in southern Portugal, has the highest number of sunshine hours in winter? We have lovely memories of our winters in the Algarve. Around 10 am we breakfast in the sun and by half past five we go back inside when the sun sets. It gets really cold then and it's more pleasant to be indoors. We also like to lunch on the various terraces in Olhao, Fuseta, Tavira or our own village of Moncarapacho. Enjoying the sunshine outdoors, a thick sweater is not necessary! The weather
Yes, it does rain sometimes. Good for replenishing the water reserves in Portugal and our Mediterranean garden. And for the evening and morning you'll definitely need a sweater or jacket, it gets quite chilly.
We haven't worn a jacket during the day yet, but we have worn many layers. When the sun comes out you can at least take off some of those layers! Read here about the 12 months weather in the Algarve.
When it's not too sunny, there are large shopping malls nearby. But also many nice restaurants where you can enjoy delicious Portuguese dishes, as well as tapas, Chinese or sushi. It's all there. Enjoy a walk along the sea is another good option!
And of course, you can participate in the various activities here in the area. Think yoga, painting courses, Portuguese lessons, gym, hiking trips, golf, swimming. You'll also find plenty of wellness options. A nice massage, facial treatment or nail care in our village. We'd be happy to make an appointment for you!

Spending your holiday in the winter sun
Our accommodation Casa Pauline is a luxury and cozy furnished house with underfloor heating. There's also a wood stove present, which makes it very pleasant to stay indoors when it's chilly outside. On the terrace, especially out of the wind, you can enjoy lying on your sunbed in the sun.

Netherlands Club Algarve
The NCA, or Netherlands Club Algarve, offers Dutch-speaking members and non-members various activities throughout the Algarve. These range from coffee mornings, architectural tours of the city, beautiful organized walks, creative workshops, drinks at the most beautiful locations and much more.
