Overwintering in the Eastern Algarve

Overwintering in the Eastern Algarve

We have fond memories of our wintering season in the Algarve. We had breakfast in the sunshine around 10 a.m. and went back inside around 4:30 p.m. as the sun set. Then it really started to get colder, and it was more comfortable inside.

Even during these months, we love to have lunch on the various terraces in Olhao, Fuseta, or our own village of Moncarapacho. Enjoy the sunshine outside—no need for a thick sweater!

There are also many other winter visitors at this time of year who enjoy the wonderful temperatures and the pleasant hustle and bustle in the restaurants and shops.

The weather
Yes, of course it rains sometimes. It's good for replenishing the water supply in Portugal and our Mediterranean garden. And for the evenings and mornings, you definitely need a sweater or jacket; it gets quite cold.

We haven't worn a jacket yet, but we've worn plenty of layers. When the sun comes out, you can at least take off some layers! Read here about the Algarve weather during the 12 months .

When the sun is a bit less shining, you'll find large shopping malls in the area. There are also many charming restaurants where you can enjoy delicious Portuguese dishes, tapas, Chinese food, or sushi indoors. It's all there. A breath of fresh air by the sea is another great option!

And of course, you can participate in the various activities in the area. Think yoga, painting courses, Portuguese lessons, gym, hiking, golf, and swimming. You'll also find plenty of wellness options here. Enjoy a wonderful massage, facial, or get your nails done in our village. We'd be happy to schedule an appointment for you!

Casa Pauline and Casa Florine
Our accommodations are luxurious and comfortably furnished, and are comfortable thanks to underfloor heating. In Casa Pauline   There's also a wood-burning stove, making it a wonderful place to relax in colder weather. On the terrace, sheltered from the wind, you can relax on your lounger in the sun.

If you'd like to spend the winter with us, you'll receive a special winter rate for bookings of 28 days or more. Let us know by email at info@guesthouse-moncarapacho.com or via the contact form on our website.

Dutch club Algarve
The NCA, or Dutch Club Algarve, offers Dutch-speaking members and non-members a wide range of activities throughout the Algarve. These range from coffee mornings, (architectural) city tours, beautiful guided walks, creative workshops, drinks at the most beautiful locations, and much more.

You can participate for a small fee or become a member. You can follow them on the NCA's Facebook page and their website, Nederlandse Club Algarve .

Remote working
Our two accommodations are also suitable if you want to work remotely for extended periods during the winter months. We provide a comfortable office chair, lighting, and, of course, a good internet connection.

Small warning
A little warning upfront: once you've spent the winter, you won't want to go anywhere else! Don't wait too long to decide. There aren't many accommodations for comfortable wintering here in the Algarve. Casa Pauline is almost fully booked for the winter of 2025-2026! Due to a cancellation, November and mid-December 2025 have become available.

Want to escape the Dutch winter? Consider wintering. You can start with just a month, and if you enjoy it, book a longer stay the following year.
