Dear Maarten and Celina, what a beautiful surroundings with a stunning view. Nice pool and beautiful gardens with gorgeous plants. Nice and beautifully furnished cottage Casa Pauline. We were there from June 10 to 18, 2026.
Greetings Marij and Frank
We had a wonderful holiday at Guesthouse Moncarapacho in east-Algarve, Portugal.
The studio where we stayed was beautifully furnished and equipped with all amenities. The pool was delightful and we enjoyed the surroundings. The coast and the islands off the coast are fun to explore, as are the towns and villages in East Algarve.
The weather was very pleasant at the end of September, between 25 and 30 degrees. In short, we enjoyed ourselves! Maarten and Celine are particularly hospitable, everything was tiptop in order.
I hope everything is going well with you.
Warm regards, Saskia and Frank
Dear Maarten and Celine,
Everything is going well with us. After our return, we are back to work, and before you know it, you're right back into the rhythm of daily life.
We had a wonderful stay at Guesthouse Moncarapacho. The village is beautifully located in a central position and the guesthouse itself is spacious, making it a great base to explore the area. The apartment is comfortable and fully equipped.
There's plenty to do in the area. We really enjoyed the beaches in the Ria Formosa - such as Santa Luzia and Cacela Velha. The Seven Hanging Valleys Trail is also a beautiful walk, and the viewpoint at Cerro da Cabeça is definitely worth it. The olive oil tour at Monte Rosa was a surprisingly fun activity.
There is a wide choice of restaurants: from luxurious dining at Bosso in Tavira to the simple, but delicious chicken piri piri at Frango da Ria near Olhão. The reception at the guesthouse was particularly friendly and welcoming, and the welcome package in the apartment was a nice surprise, making us feel immediately at home.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Guesthouse Moncarapacho – a beautiful place with a welcoming atmosphere and plenty of opportunities in the surrounding area. Definitely recommended.
Dear Maarten and Celina
,
"We had an amazing stay at your Guesthouse. The welcome was excellent and you were both very warm and friendly hosts. We enjoyed our pleasant conversations. The accommodation was spotless, almost new, and everything worked as it should. The only thing that might be missing were some hooks for the towels."
The personal touch you prepared for our little boy was very thoughtful and he was super happy with it. Moreover, of course, the breakfast was delicious and mega extensive!
The environment is very beautiful there. The beaches are very easy and quick to reach, and the ferry to the nearby islands is also very accessible and highly recommended.
The swimming pool was great too, nice and large, and the salt water made it much more pleasant than with chlorine. The garden was of course still under construction in this new phase, but it will surely be beautiful! We would definitely recommend this stay and would love to come back.
Warm regards, Lai Jin and Max
Hi Celina and Maarten,
We would like to leave a review at this time. We had a wonderful time at Guesthouse-Moncarapacho. The location is perfect, you can easily visit nice coastal towns like Tavira, Fuseta or Olhão. You can also venture more inland, hike in the Fonte Férrea park. Additionally, visiting the Ria Formosa is highly recommended.
The cottage itself and the service is excellent. Nice and spacious, cozy, clean and a beautiful terrace with a sea view; we could get used to it!
We were surprised with some tapas on the first evening and the breakfast on the first morning was also truly luxurious! Celina and Maarten had great tips about the area and were very friendly. Thank you very much for the nice period!
Greetings, Lienke & Wouter
P.S. The rice table was also truly amazing (once again, thanks for all the cooking Maarten)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your beautiful boutique hotel. The decor is truly lovely and every detail has been thought of. With the distant views, charming villages, and lovely beaches, it's a wonderful vacation spot!
A delightful peaceful place in nature with charming villages and the ocean nearby. A beautiful cottage with all the comforts and plenty of privacy. And a friendly host nearby if anything should happen. Pool and garden where it is wonderful to stay and with a view of the ocean!
Dear Maarten and Celina,
As already confirmed orally, we thoroughly enjoyed the comfortable stay and the exceptional hospitality. Both at check-in and check-out, the wine and other gifts were very much appreciated. And, respect for your special personal project and adventure that you have undertaken with the new construction of this accommodation.
And, as in the well-known B&B TV show, there are tips. Indeed. The absence of dog barking was a positive point and worth mentioning. And certainly no barking dogs that we often hear in Portugal.
We will be considering our plans for next year over the coming weeks and will then ask you about your availability.
Kind regards, Peter and Liedeweijde
Maarten and Celina have purchased a beautiful plot of land in Moncarapacho where they built a lovely white house with 3 rentable cottages. In June 2025, we were allowed to stay as trial guests in the new studio Casa Florine.
The final touches still need to be put on, but it will definitely turn out well.
We thoroughly explored the East Algarve, from Faro to Tavira. In the area, we went for beautiful walks, past fruit and olive trees and climbed over rocks.
The natural area of Ria Formosa, which is up to 60 km long along the coast, is beautiful. When you walk through this area from Fuseta, the nearby charming coastal village located 6 km away, you will see thousands of little crabs.
In Fuseta you have a lovely beach. You can enjoy delicious fish on the boulevard and in the center there are nice little restaurants and terraces. We ate twice at the vegetarian restaurant Green Spirit and once at the Tapas restaurant do Nik.
We rented 2 bikes in Moncarapacho, a nice, friendly man, he already knew Celina.
Once we cycled to Tavira along the EVO 1 bike route, mainly through the Ria Formosa. Right at the beginning, we encountered beautiful flamingos and birds. Tavira is a nice town with shops, restaurants and a castle with a beautiful garden where you could freely enter.
The second time we cycled to Faro through the Ria Formosa along the bike route, but it stops at some point and then you have to find an alternative bike route.
What I found very special is that there are kind of Wadden Islands off the coast, which belong to the Ria Formosa, here you can cheaply take the ferry or you can take a boat trip.
We took the ferry from Olhão to Olhão da Culatra. We walked through the lovely fishing village with its restaurants to the beach, through beautiful nature. We walked along the beach to Olhão do Farol, which took 45 minutes. We had something to eat at Farol and then spent a few hours on the beach before taking the ferry from Farol back to Olhão.
Olhão is also a charming town with narrow streets filled with Portuguese houses, and along the boulevard, you'll find the large covered fish, vegetable, and fruit market.
We also took the ferry from Fuseta to Olhão da Fuseta and walked along the beach to Olhão da Armona, a long, stretched-out village. We ate there, relaxed on the beach, and then walked back. In total, it was about 16 km.
You can walk to the beach of Praia do Barril, which is about 9 km from the guesthouse and about 1 1/2 km walk, or you can take the train to the beach on the Atlantic Ocean. We then ate cuttlefish in São Luzia.
The islands, Ohla da Tavirs and Ohla de Faro, which you also have to go to by ferry, seem to be beautiful as well.
On Saturdays, you also have a large indoor and outdoor fish, vegetable, and fruit market in Loulé. A nice town in the countryside.
We are back inside, driving through small Portuguese villages and eating in a restaurant where mainly local people eat. In Moncarapacho you have nice restaurants and squares.
We took a tour of the Quinta da Tor vineyard, where we also enjoyed a delicious wine tasting with tasty snacks, and they also had a lovely swimming pool.
Since Celina and Maarten's swimming pool wasn't quite finished in June 2025 and the weather was very hot, we went to a restaurant with a swimming pool in Fuseta, Ria Panoramiqua, three times, which was very delicious and had a beautiful view of the Ria Formosa and the Atlantic Ocean.
From the studio Casa Florine, you can also see the Atlantic Ocean from the terrace, which is very special. The studio is atmospherically furnished and the first necessities were present for us, including a bottle of wine 🥂. Our bed was changed regularly 😀.
It is handy to have a car, hopefully we will come back once the pool and garden are completely finished.
Best regards, Remco & Gertrude
